Schön singen können viele - Max Ciolek erzählt seine Musik. Nach seinem Amerika-Debut unter Ton Koopman schrieb die New York Times von einem „splendid evangelist", und auch deutsche Zeitungen loben den „rezitativischen Erzählstil von höchster Intensität, flexibel in Tempo, Emotion und Klangfarbe". Woher das kommt? Nun, vielleicht sind die Gesangslehrer schuld: Alastair Thompson und Mechthild Georg waren (neben Emma Kirkby und Christoph Prégardien) wichtige Helfer auf seinem musikalischen Weg. Oder liegt es an den Dirigenten, mit denen Max Ciolek schon arbeiten durfte, an Philippe Herreweghe oder Hermann Max, an Sigiswald Kuijken oder Peter Neumann? An den vielen Auftritten in fast allen europäischen Ländern, in China, Marokko und auf Konzertpodien wie der Kölner Philharmonie oder dem Concertgebouw Amsterdam, an den CD- und Rundfunkaufnahmen?

Er selbst hat eine ganz einfache Antwort: Nämlich, dass das Singen bei Ihm fest in seinem Leben verwurzelt ist, natürlich, nicht künstlich. Und das seine vielen anderen Interessen, die ihm zum Teil auch Beruf(ung) geworden sind, sein Musizieren bereichern und befruchten. Und dass das Wichtigste bleibt, die Freude und innere Bewegung, die er beim Singen erlebt, weiterzugeben - mit dem Ziel, die Herzen der Hörer und Hörerinnen zu öffnen!

The German tenor (also conductor) Max Ciolek received his singing training initially with Alastair Thompson as a member of the King's Singers, then with John Potter at the Akademie für Alte Musik in Bremen and with Mechthild Georg in Cologne. He participated in master-classes with Emma Kirkby and Christoph Prégardien. Max Ciolek has made a name for himself, amongst other activities, as a Bach singer in international demand. He has given concerts in nearly all European countries, in such venues as the Cologne Philharmonie and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. He has also appeared in China, Morocco and the USA. He has worked with such conductors as Philippe Herreweghe, Hermann Max, Peter Neumann, Reinhard Goebel and Jörg Straube. His American debut concerts were conducted by Ton Koopman.

In the Bach year 2000 he participated in tours to Australia and South America performing J.S. Bach’s Mass in B minor (BWV 232) under the baton of Sigiswald Kuijken. He is also an increasingly frequent guest at international festivals, including the Leipzig Bach Festival, the Académies Musicales de Saintes, and the Flanders Festival and the Rheingau-Musikfestival. Max Ciolek's numerous broadcasts CD recordings testify to his wide-ranging repertoire, and his flexibility for vocal music of all centuries, which, in addition to the Bach Evangelists, includes works by Heinrich Schütz, through Mozart and Felix Mendelssohn, right up to Benjamin Britten.

Max Ciolek se range aujourd´hui parmi les ténors de renommé internationale. Suite à ses débuts en Amérique sous la direction de Ton Koopman, le New York Times le qualifie de "splendid evangelist" tandis que la presse allemande de son côté met en exergue un style récitatif d´une grande intensité narrative, déployant dans une flexibilité de tempo un large éventail de possibilités émotives et sonores. Au cours de son cheminement artistique il bénéficie des conseils d´Alastair Thompson, Mechthild Georg, Emma Kirkby et Christoph Prégardien. A l´heure actuelle il s´est produit dans la majorité des pays européens; son parcours le conduisit également jusqu´aux Etats-Unis, en Chine, au Maroc ainsi que sur des scènes prestigieuses telles que la Philharmonie de Cologne ou le Concertgebouw d´Amsterdam. De nombreux enregistrements radio ou CD témoignent du répertoire très diversifié du chanteur. On y trouve au-delà des parites récitatives de Bach des extraits de la musique vocale de Schütz à Benjamin Britten en passant par Mozart et Mendelssohn.

Max Ciolek benéficie en outre de l´encouragement et inspiration que lui procure son travail auprès de chefs tels que Philippe Herreweghe, Hermann Max, Sigiswald Kuijken, Reinhard Goebel ou Peter Neumann. C´est ainsi qu´il figure de plus en plus souvent au programme des Festivals Internationaux (Bachfest Leipzig, Académies Musicales de Saintes, Festival van Vlaanderen).
